Jane and I were in Storrs CT in September to photograph the undefeated UConn Womens Basketball team for SportsNet NY (SNY), along with their coaches Geno Auriemma and Chris Dailey and the SNY broadcasting team–which now includes our local friend Meghan Culmo, along with UConn star Kara Wolters, Andrew Catalon and Kerith Burke.  The players combine beauty and toughness and were so fun to photograph–really dedicated but with a playful side.  Here are some photos from the shoot…go Huskies!!  You can see more of our commercial work including portraits of the NY Mets at photojane.com.

Betsy and Jon’s wedding was like an ideal date… that combination of great chemistry, spontaneity, perfect atmosphere, and two people who just love being together.  Betsy and Jon met for a first look at the New Haven Lawn Club before driving down Whitney Avenue to the First Presbyterian Church, with its mid-sixties design featuring telephone poles extending to the ceiling…it’s really intimate and funky…kind of like getting married in the woods.  At the ceremony a group of Betsy’s girlfriends from Trinity College’s a cappella group, the Trinitones, sang.  Wow, just beautiful!

Onto the reception where their art deco touches–from the silver-accented cake to Betsy’s flapper style second dress–matched the 1931 look of the NHLC ballroom.  Some serious dancing ensued, along with another awesome performance by the Trinitones…loved it!   It was nice photographing again at the New Haven Lawn Club, which fits the bill so well for a fall or holiday wedding.

Watch Hill RI is all about sailing, summering, and seaside eats…..all the elements of Emery and James’s story.  To Emery he was Summer James and they sailed together at the Watch Hill Yacht Club.  James grew up in Watch Hill, where his family owns the classic St. Clair Annex restaurant just down the street from the Flying Horse Carousel.   Fast forward to 2012, and what better place to get married than just up the hill at the atmospheric 19th century Watch Hill Chapel, where you can stroll across the street to celebrate at the new Ocean House.  (Remember the old Ocean House…used to see that pastel yellow siding from miles off shore on our way to Block Island.  The new Ocean House is a beautiful resort that fits the landscape and provides an intimate, clubby setting for weddings.)

Lots of love followed in the warm speeches from Emery and James’s family…then the dancing began!  Some serious dancing with family and fun loving friends–it was great seeing Matthew, Hamilton and Patrick and their wonderful wives again!  Loved the acoustic sounds from the Peter Miles Band out of Wilmington VT–they’re kind of the un-wedding band…great stuff.  And Westerly’s Rosanna’s Flowers bouquets added beauty to this stylish day.

Today’s Style Me Pretty Little Black Book Blog features Eleanor and Matt’s Wedding at Tyrone Farm in Pomfret CT!  Relaxed and stylish–that fits both Eleanor and Matt and their wedding.  Their super-creative team of vendors included Chocolate Creative Design, Tyrone Farm,  Hana Floral Design, and The White Dress by the Shore and Gourmet Galley.  Congrats, Eleanor and Matt!

We hope everyone in the tri-state area is recovering ok from Sandy’s wrath….especially folks in NYC!  What a difference a month makes…just one month ago yesterday Pam and Nick’s were married at Pier Sixty at the Chelsea Piers in Manhattan.  Let’s go back and take a look…

While Pam and her girlfriends readied themselves up on Central Park, Nick prepped downtown at Battery Park’s Ritz-Carlton.  They rendezvous’d for a first look outside the uptown apartment and it was just perfect.  Pam’s a hugely happy person who really brings out the smile in Nick!  Next stop was the summery green Central Park Conservancy for fun bridal party photos before making our way to Chelsea for their ceremony and reception at Pier Sixty.

It was a pleasure working with the wonderful event planner Harriette Rose Katz and her team, and Jeffrey at Pier Sixty!  The stellar creative décor came from Mark Rose Events whose beyond gorgeous floral work for the Chuppah and reception–along with lighting from Frost Productions–made a most magical setting for the guests entering the Aquatania Room.  Pier Sixty captures that festive luxury liner era in its ballrooms and outdoor promenade on the Hudson, and features Abigail Kirsch cuisine.  And the band Starlight Music, playing the spectrum from acoustic to Santana to high energy dance, was a huge hit.

With a fun–and funny–group of friends and family, this was a big NYC wedding with an intimate feel.  Thank you so much Pam and Nick and your families for having us photograph your day!   To view many more photos please click here…

Back in August we came into NYC to photograph at the L’Oreal Tech Center on Fifth Avenue for Dark and Lovely, L’Oreal’s line of black women’s relaxers, hair color and styling products.  Dark and Lovely is celebrating its 40th anniversary and wanted to create a special advertorial page for magazines including Essence, and use the images for web and Facebook use.  The theme was what Dark and Lovely means to women, and how it makes you feel beautiful inside and out…and it was a whole lot of fun to shoot!  The three women weren’t models but you can’t tell that from the photos–they were great to work with–thanks Jayda, Ashley and C. Great wedding!  We traversed New York City in late September for Pam and Nick’s awesome wedding weekend…starting with their rehearsal dinner at Shun Lee on West 65th in New York.  Such a nice couple, always smiling and really enjoying each other’s company.   Jane photographed Pam and Nick in the summer at Yale where they met…stay tuned for pics from their wedding at Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers coming soon!  Congratulations Pam and Nick!  Click here to see more photos.

Happy to see  that Sperry Tents used a pic from Caity and Matt’s Hill-Stead Museum wedding in an ad recently (lower right photo of the tent interior)!  Great tent maker, Sperry really delivers with a distinctive look and feel…and their onsite “tent guys” are simply the best…always ready to take care of the tent, even in a hurricane!  Gorgeous decor throughout the tent…a great job by Sixpence for your Shoe!

Celebrating that last bit of Connecticut summer, Alexandra and Jon were married a few weeks back with a festive garden party reception at the Pond House at West Hartford’s Elizabeth Park.  The day started with Alex’s getting ready with her girls at the Avon Old Farms Hotel, where Jane was able to indulge her love of great light, wallpaper and beautiful brides!  Then onto Torrington’s St. Francis of Assisi church, where Alexandra and her Dad–listening to her brother Rob play the violin–walked down the aisle to meet Jon.  Later, over Avon Mountain at Elizabeth Park the party kicked off among the flowers, so beautiful in September with dahlias in bloom, with a photo stroll in the color-bursting gardens.  West Hartford’s Moscarillo’s Garden Shoppe also made lovely white rose and blue bouquets for the wedding.  All generations were dancing, to everything from polkas to “Call Me Maybe”, including a really touching dance of Alexandra with her grandfather to Thank Heaven for Little Girls.

Britt and Peter really put their stamp of personality on their relaxed & friendly vineyard wedding a few weeks back at Jonathan Edwards Winery in North Stonington CT!  They laughed, danced and partied with their families and big support system of friends from the ’08 Obama Advance Team to their Stanford and Yale classmates.  Support system is right…these guys held the poles of the Chuppah against the wind during the ceremony!

We met first at The Inn at Stonington in the Borough before heading up country to the winery, where the Sperry Tent was decked out beautifully in rustic elegance…a great job by the unflappable Candice Coppola of Jubilee Events.  White bird netting covered the nearly-ripe vines, making a dreamy setting for their outdoor wedding ceremony in the vineyard. Very “farm to table” vibe with guests enjoying Jonathan Edwards’ Stone Table Red–a nice blend of cab, merlot and petite sirah–and caterer A Thyme to Cook featuring food from Connecticut’s LoPresti Farms and Maple Lane Farms.  And the creative folks from Blush Floral from Madison CT provided the really nice flowers.

Loved Britt’s shimmery dress by British designer David Fielden..beautiful!  Look no further for a wonderful JOP…Mary Coburn–she’s so upbeat and really personalizes the ceremony.  For music under the Sperry tent, DJ Eko of the Love Junkies spun Stevie Wonder to the latest hip hop…not your typical DJ!  She raises DJing to an artform.  The night ended with a crazy-train bus ride to the afterparty at the Skipper’s Dock back in the Borough..fun to the end!
