Angelyn and Kenny’s Wedding at Amarante’s in New Haven CT
Well I love how Angelyn and Kenny designed an island-style, laid back wedding! It fit their personalities perfect – from the steel drums to the Tommy Bahama shirts – and 7/7/07 turned out to be an AMAZING day to get married on the water!
Angelyn got ready at her parents’ home:
Kenny got ready at The New Haven Hotel with his groomsmen. No tux shoes for these guys!
I don’t know what second-shooter Mike is saying to the guys lately, but I love this shot of Shaun, the best man, and Kenny:
For such a laid-back, relaxed wedding, we actually did a lot and I was thrilled that Angelyn wanted to do a photo shoot at Yale before the wedding!
The bridal party with sun spots on Yale Green. (I know a lot of photographers try to avoid sun spots no matter what but I love them and will pursue them!) For any amateur photographers out there who are interested – just tilt your lens up enough that the sun actually hits the lens and you can see the spots when you take it! I really liked this session as we got plenty of normal shots but we also got some really cool lighting with sun streaming down on Angelyn and Kenny!
We let the bridal party go back to the a/c’d bus and we went on our Yale tour to capture Angelyn and Kenny with some of the great architecture:
How lucky are we (7/7/07?)? …most of the inner dorms and courtyards are closed off, but we found a courtyard that was open:
My favorite portrait of the day:
This is one of my favorite pics as we are on the bus going to the ceremony at Amarante’s with Angelyn’s sister, Alison, and Kenny’s brother, Matt, in the background. The light on Angelyn’s face is really dramatic and beautiful:
Look at this day as Angelyn’s dad walks her down the aisle!
Kids being kids makes a much more interesting picture:
A cocktail party on the deck complete with a steel drum band … very island…I like how Mike got the blue umbrella’s in sharp focus on Shaun’s glasses:
The cake flowers were done by Flowers by Candy:
Not your typical first dance shot but I want to know why everyone is cracking up!
Not sure what they are looking at … anyone?
Then we went off for a mini-shoot near the end of the reception – can you say relaxed…
Thank you guys for such a fun, beautiful day and for collaborating on such a great shoot! You were both just lovely to work with and please have a margarita for me down in Mexico…I am so jealous!

Colleen and Manoli – Laurel View Country Club
Well, I’m having to cut myself off from picking blog images for this wedding because there are so many I want to show! What a fun day and relaxed couple – it was so great to see you just taking time to enjoy the day!
Colleen started getting ready at her parents home in a lovely pink room that gave everything a warm glow:
Colleen’s Mom coming in to see her daughter dressed:
Manoli got ready at his parents’ home:
The Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Waterbury, CT was amazingly beautiful and ornate:
Manoli’s parents greeting them as husband and wife:
Then we headed to Laurel View Country Club for portraits and the reception.
The bridal party was up for having some fun:
I think Manoli and his brother, the best man, actually came up with this pose themselves 🙂
I really loved the Manoli and Colleen portrait session:
If I’m shooting somewhere for the first time, I always go ahead and visit the venue ahead of time. I saw this path on my visit and couldn’t stop thinking about portraits there. These are some of my favorites:
and this must just be the photojournalist in me – I just found it funny:
This is a very special photo to Manoli and Colleen (not the one I took, but the one in their hand!) … how many people have a photo of the exact instant when they are being proposed to (Manoli had put his camera on self-timer and Colleen thought they were just taking vacation shots)!!! Colleen emailed it to me just thinking I would appreciate it and I loved it (and truth be told, got a little teary!). If you can’t see it very well due to the small size, Colleen has thrown her hand over her mouth! The proposal shot is in a gazebo in Antigua so I printed out the picture and we took this one in the gazebo at Laurel View!
On to the reception…a great moment right after the first dance…
Their parents’ vintage champagne toasting glasses:
A fantastic fondant cake…
Second-shooter Mike’s silhouette shot of the bridal party and best man toasting – how very iPod of you Mike!
Shout! lives on and the party gets going strong!
…and the Greek dancing begins! LOVE IT!
I don’t think Manoli and Colleen left the dance floor after that!
What a wonderful time guys! Thank you so much for hiring us – we hope you are having an incredible time on your adventure in Greece and Rhodes!
