A few weeks after we moved into our West Hartford Center studio, Dr. Melissa Lambright–who owns SIGHT, a boutique eye care and eye wear studio in West Hartford–walked in to introduce herself and talk photography.

We’ve since developed a really nice friendship–and we’ve photographed her staff and store for her updated website.  We recently interviewed Dr. Lambright on her practice…if you’re in need of eye care in the Hartford area check out SIGHT on 17 South Main Street right in West Hartford Center.  Here’s our Q&A..and you can read more here.

Your business, SIGHT, is all about eye care and eyewear.  This combination of the medical and fashion fields suit you particularly well, would you agree?

I agree that SIGHT is the perfect marriage of the latest advances in eye care, with the most fashion forward, designer eye wear collections that are available exclusively in our boutique.  We make it a priority to find cutting edge techniques and therapies to perform eye examinations and offer specialized treatments, as well as eyewear that sets new trends in design and leads the way in innovative ideas.  We are on a continuous quest to provide our patients with unique access to the best of everything.

You live and work in the West Hartford Center.  What do you like most about the Center?

I love being part of this community both professionally and personally.  It affords me the opportunity to serve the community where I live. I relish riding my bike to work, and having access to the best restaurants, shops, services and entertainment.  What I value most are the friendly waves, the familiar faces and ringing my bell to say hello as I head to work to see my first patient of the day.

What’s the secret to getting eyeglasses that look good on a person’s face?

Our mantra is: “the details make the difference”.  Once we know your eyes, we ensure they’re framed perfectly with our exclusive selection of distinctive eyewear from around the world.  Our consultations are truly personalized, and our staff really dedicates a great deal of time to help patients choose from the highest quality collections.  We look at eyewear from every angle- the bridge fit, the proportion, the color, and the anti-glare coating.

I would also say that our offerings are predicated on quality, not labels. We have collections made by independent designers such as Mykita, SALT, Bevel, Hoffman Horn and Orgreen that are designed for the individual, not the mass market.  The level of craftsmanship in these brands makes a tremendous difference in the look, feel and fit. And the incredible materials guarantee that the frames have longevity- maintaining their color, finish and fit.  These are the independent brands that give you access to style-setting designs before they are imitated for the mass market.

Get ready for some True Romance!  Shannon and Mike go way back to attending grade school together, growing up on the coast in Madison CT.  We had the pleasure of photographing their wedding in September at the Weekapaug Inn, the secluded getaway overlooking Block Island Sound,  just down the shore from Watch Hill RI.

Mike’s wedding present to Shannon was super thoughtful–a handmade memory book with everything from school notes they passed to pictures and items they’ve exchanged over the years.  Shannon’s present to Mike was spot-on…a Bose speaker system–Mike’s an acoustic guitar player and singer–you can catch him on Sunday afternoons at the classic Tap Room of the Griswold Inn in Essex CT.

The rain held off for the outdoor ceremony officiated by Mike’s father, and didn’t dampen spirits one bit–this was a real celebration–funky and eclectic, from the old-school vinyl records Mike played for the ceremony to Shannon’s cool Valentino Rockstud shoes.  And–this being Rhode Island–guests drank an adult version of Rhode Island’s Del’s Lemonade.  More musical touches included Shannon and her dad’s dance to Smokey Robinson’s “You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me” (great father-daughter song) and a custom vinyl-looking DVD of classic tunes for all guests.  A real highlight was the speeches–the intimate setting inside the tent in the rain was perfect for hearing so many stories.  And it was so nice to see Matthew and Kaitlin again–Jane and I photographed their Watch Hill – Charlestown RI wedding a few years back.

Shannon and Mike, wishing you many years of happiness!!  Thanks so much for having us capture your wedding day in pictures!

Cover Shot: David Neeleman, Founder of JetBlue and Azul

Some entrepreneurs really defy the odds by shaking up an established industry in a big way…David Neeleman, founder of JetBlue Airlines and CEO of Azul is a great example!  We photographed Neeleman for Airline Business Magazine last August for a story on his latest venture, Azul, a Brazil lower cost airline that’s taking the market by storm.  Neeleman splits his time between Fairfield County and Brazil, and is a fluent Portuguese speaker (and Brazilian and US citizen), having lived in Sao Paulo in his youth.

We often shoot environmental portraits of execs in their settings.  For this shoot we packed some bold blue seamless background for a clean shot for the cover.  Great working with Ghim, the journalist for the story!
