Gifts of Love “A Night Out in Style” at Hop Meadow Country Club in Simsbury CT
With Thanksgiving around the corner, it’s a good time to stop and count your blessings and to support people who need a hand with the basics of life–food, clothing and shelter. That’s precisely the mission at Gifts of Love in Avon (if you have that old crib in your basement, give them a call). Last weekend we photographed A Night Out in Style, their fundraiser night at the Hop Meadow Country Club in Simsbury CT. Our friend and uber-planner Adria organized the event along with lots of other friends on the committee–nice to see them all!!
They held a silent auction and live auction and a fashion show, the last one M.C.’d by the very funny Damon Scott of WTIC. Walking the catwalk and channeling their inner Zoolander were local celebs, GOL folks, ESPN execs and other fashionable people. The celebs included Fox 61 anchors Sarah French, Logan Byrnes, and Laurie Perez; Mary Glassman, First Selectman of Simsbury and MaryEllen Fillo of the Hartford Courant’s Java column. A very uninhibited bunch–lots of fun! Nice meeting some new folks such as Mark Mitchell of Mitchell Auto Group who parked his pristine antique Chrysler and MG outside next to the red carpet.
Great job Adria and the Gifts of Love team!! To see more photos, click “View more photos” below.

West Hartford’s Camille Bridal Supports Military Brides
On July 14, our friends at Camille Bridal Couture on LaSalle Street in West Hartford Center CT provided beautiful free wedding dresses to military brides-to-be to say thank you for their families’ service to our country.
Irene Zalevsky, owner of Camille Bridal, is passionate about this subject and joined forces with the national Brides Across America to give back to the families who bear the military burden for the US.
It was fun to meet and photograph the brides and their moms and friends–and to see the joy on their faces when they found the perfect dress.
Lots of Connecticut media covered the event–here is a FOX News segment on the event.
Irene–way to go–great event!! For more info see the Brides Across America website.

11th Annual West Hartford Mayor’s Charity Ball at the Hartford Golf Club
Jane and I love living in West Hartford, and we’re certainly not alone. For the second year in a row we photographed the festivities at the West Hartford Mayor’s Charity Ball at the Hartford Golf Club. The ball benefits two West Hartford community organizations: The Grounds (a great place for teens to hang in Bishops Corner) and HopeWorks Inc. (a counseling and community outreach organization).
Events included a silent auction, live auction (featuring the local celebrities from Hell’s Kitchen reality show) and much more. Todd Rose from Cuvee, the cool winebar in Blue Back Square, was pouring the bubbly as guests signed up for their favorite silent auction items.
Brad Drazen, the NBC Connecticut Anchor was emcee, and continuing in the theme of “hometown sons who’ve succeeded in Hollywood” (last year John O’Hurley of Seinfeld and Dancing with the Stars fame was the host) David Steinberg was this year’s special guest speaker. Steinberg is the writer of the 2002 comedy movie Slackers, and came to be a Hollywood writer by way of Yale and Duke Law School. Both were extremely funny, with Steinberg riffing on the two West Hartford pet peeves….no overnight parking on the street and that dang leaf collection.
Mayor Scott Slifka spoke to the audience then quickly changed into costume for a killer Blues Brothers homage with the song “The Mayor, Man” along with former WH mayors Jonathan Harris and Catherine Reynolds…well done, especially Harris’s mean Belushi imitation.
Later in the night Attorney General Richard Blumenthal stepped to the mic to speak to the crowd of 350 and add his support to these West Hartford Charities. Great speakers all around.
