reStore: Seamus Painting

For the past month we’ve been busy getting our new studio ready in West Hartford Center.  I wanted to do a personal photo project on the fixing-up process, so being a people photographer I decided to focus on the people who helped bring it all about.  I’m a big fan of small business so I am thrilled that everyone has been so open to being photographed.  Here’s installment #1 of my reStore project: Seamus.

His name is Paul but his company is Seamus Painting.  Actually his middle name is Seamus and that’s what his family calls him…besides, as he says, Paul’s Painting just doesn’t have the ring that Seamus Painting has.  Paul’s an upbeat, personable guy who’s dad to three boys and lives in West Hartford.  He coaches basketball and baseball, the latter with the West Hartford Little League–where he’s also helped to create the Miracle League baseball field on Trout Brook Drive–the first such field for special needs kids in New England.

Seamus Painting provides power-washing and interior and exterior painting….and his crew did a great job on our studio!  You can reach Paul / Seamus at 860.965.1362 or [email protected].  Thanks Paul for a fun shoot!

Reinvention: Lynne

Here is the second shoot in my personal project “Reinvention”, all about women who reinvent themselves mid-life.  Meet Lynne…photographer, mother and roller derby queen!  In the past year Lynne has reinvented herself as a leader in several photography organizations and as you can tell by the image above taken up roller derby for the Pioneer Valley Roller Derby team.  During the shoot I got an appreciation of what a tough game this can be…what other sport has mattresses lining the walls?! What a treat to have the rink to ourselves to play with light and then go out in the country near Lynne’s home to shoot her in a field…rainbows on her socks and in the sky!  As a side note…Lynne and I met during a photographers’ meeting in CT last year where we discovered we went to the same Kansas City high school just two years apart…small world indeed.  You go roller girl!!

Reinvention: Sally

I’ve just begun a personal project that I’ve been thinking about for a long time…it’s called “Reinvention” and it’s about women who reinvent themselves mid-life.  In addition to my own reinvention story…becoming a photographer after nine years in the corporate world, I noticed many of my friends and the women around me had totally switched gears in their 30s or 40s to do something more fulfilling in life.  Meet Sally…smoking cessation counselor who loved making jewelry and launched Sally Lerman Jewelry a couple of years ago.
