2 Wedding Ideas: Paloma’s Nest Ring Bearer Bowl & Chiavari Chair Ribbon
Since we are in the wedding planning season….here are a couple of wedding ideas from Nicole and Tony’s lush and preppy wedding at the Webb Barn in Wethersfield CT back in June of 2009.
The first is the Ring Bearer Bowl from Paloma’s Nest which is a ceramic dish used in place of the ring pillow. The bowls have become quite popular in the last two years–I’ve seen Style Me Pretty rave about them–for couples looking for a distinctive handmade heirloom from their wedding.
The second tip from their wedding is from Madame Monogram, where owner Kristen Enlow makes custom ribbons for wedding banquet chairs–very cool…and they look great in photographs. Side comment: if you attend many weddings you will notice again and again the same classic chairs–which, after Googling, I discovered are called Chiavari chairs…who knew? Thanks Nicole and Tony for your great wedding ideas! To see more of IRIS Photography’s wedding photos please visit our website and click on “enter weddings”.

Running of the Brides Tomorrow!
I’m not sure if this would be my worst nightmare or something totally fun (you know what I mean!), but I saw in the Courant today that tomorrow, the 22nd, is the semi-annual Filene’s Basement "Running of the Brides" at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston…gowns from $900 to $9000 selling for $249 to $699…I thought it funny that the Courant said to wear a sports bar and be prepared to change in the aisles! Here’s the link.

Looking for an eclectic, unique swing band…Shiny Lapel Trio???
Well, I’m not even sure if these guys do weddings but I saw on their website that they do "private events"…so I assume that they might…
But, last Saturday night we went out with friends to the Griswold Inn in Essex, CT and saw this great swing band called Shiny Lapel Trio in their Tap Room. It was great! They went from old standards like "Summer Wind" to "Americano" (remember in The Talented Mr. Ripley) and then broke into U2’s I Will Follow!
Everyone was on their feet dancing and singing and these guys could really play to a crowd. I just wanted to pass their name on because if you are looking for something intimate and eclectic and fun …and not the standard wedding band, I could see these guys being a great, classy addition to a more intimate wedding (thinking tent wedding, etc.). I did see that the lead singer Tiger Marion did the Kohl’s commercial to "Sway" and his voice has been compared to Michael Buble (and some like his voice better!)… here it is on You Tube.
They have a standard gig at the Griswold Inn on Tuesday nights if you want to check them out…and even if it’s not right for your wedding, it’s a great date night or night out with friends!
The other thing I’ll say about picking a band/dj/etc. for your wedding…never forget that the band/dj/etc. is your host to the whole night – it is so important that you get someone that can host/work a crowd in a way that fits with your style or you can get a guy willing to play anything you want but that is totally inappropriate for the type of party you want to throw.
Finally, as I feel the need to include photos with most posts, I am so happy to have someone take a good photo of Mike and me together…there are very few which is why there is no pic of me or us on our website! Thank you to Val Sorensen for this picture which I love:
