A few weeks after we moved into our West Hartford Center studio, Dr. Melissa Lambright–who owns SIGHT, a boutique eye care and eye wear studio in West Hartford–walked in to introduce herself and talk photography.

We’ve since developed a really nice friendship–and we’ve photographed her staff and store for her updated website.  We recently interviewed Dr. Lambright on her practice…if you’re in need of eye care in the Hartford area check out SIGHT on 17 South Main Street right in West Hartford Center.  Here’s our Q&A..and you can read more here.

Your business, SIGHT, is all about eye care and eyewear.  This combination of the medical and fashion fields suit you particularly well, would you agree?

I agree that SIGHT is the perfect marriage of the latest advances in eye care, with the most fashion forward, designer eye wear collections that are available exclusively in our boutique.  We make it a priority to find cutting edge techniques and therapies to perform eye examinations and offer specialized treatments, as well as eyewear that sets new trends in design and leads the way in innovative ideas.  We are on a continuous quest to provide our patients with unique access to the best of everything.

You live and work in the West Hartford Center.  What do you like most about the Center?

I love being part of this community both professionally and personally.  It affords me the opportunity to serve the community where I live. I relish riding my bike to work, and having access to the best restaurants, shops, services and entertainment.  What I value most are the friendly waves, the familiar faces and ringing my bell to say hello as I head to work to see my first patient of the day.

What’s the secret to getting eyeglasses that look good on a person’s face?

Our mantra is: “the details make the difference”.  Once we know your eyes, we ensure they’re framed perfectly with our exclusive selection of distinctive eyewear from around the world.  Our consultations are truly personalized, and our staff really dedicates a great deal of time to help patients choose from the highest quality collections.  We look at eyewear from every angle- the bridge fit, the proportion, the color, and the anti-glare coating.

I would also say that our offerings are predicated on quality, not labels. We have collections made by independent designers such as Mykita, SALT, Bevel, Hoffman Horn and Orgreen that are designed for the individual, not the mass market.  The level of craftsmanship in these brands makes a tremendous difference in the look, feel and fit. And the incredible materials guarantee that the frames have longevity- maintaining their color, finish and fit.  These are the independent brands that give you access to style-setting designs before they are imitated for the mass market.

What kind of technology do you use at SIGHT?

We are absolutely dedicated to identifying the latest developments in diagnostic procedures and patient care to prevent, detect and treat disorders of the eye.  We use advanced, cutting-edge technology to assess the eyes’ medical health, and invest in this new technology because our patients benefit so greatly.

Our patients with medical conditions have access to the same technology utilized in specialty referral centers.  For example, our Optomap allows us to look at the back of the eye without dilation drops, and has been shown to detect 40% more retinal conditions then dilation alone.  Our OPD instrument guarantees the accuracy of your prescription for both day and night, while evaluating the integrity of your cornea to detect certain corneal diseases.  Our OCT instrument give us a cross section of the retina for our macular degeneration patients, optic nerve analysis for our glaucoma patients and a macular assessment for our diabetic patients.

Your staff is really professional and nice.  What have you learned about hiring and leading a business team?

I agree-we put a high premium on personalized attention and service, and I do think that it comes across. I personally believe that kindness spreads.  Lead by example and hire people that share your love for helping others.  How we treat each other on the team impacts how we treat our patients.  We love to build relationships with our patients, and offer genuine care.

Tell us a little about SIGHT Vision Therapy.

SIGHT Vision Therapy (SIGHTvt) is one of the few places that offers Vision Therapy locally. I think that this aspect of our practice probably brings me the greatest joy professionally because of the fact that the way our eyes function, has the greatest impact on our lives.  And Vision Therapy treats eyes that do not function to their full potential.  When a patient’s functional system is underdeveloped, they may report symptoms such as difficulty with near tasks for extended periods of time, attention issues, copying errors, headaches, dizziness, poor comprehension, losing their place while reading, underperforming academically, and more.  Did you know that 80% of learning comes from vision and, unfortunately, nearly 1 in 4 children suffer from an undiagnosed vision problem that impacts their learning? It isn’t uncommon for patients to come in without symptoms because both kids and adults assume that what their eyes do is “normal.” SIGHTvt treats the underlying conditions in children and adults.
We perform a series of tests that assess a patient’s functional vision, and the result is that patients can then perform to their full potential comfortably.
